DATA DRIVEN GEOMETRY: Mapping and Parametric Design Workshop @ Ε.Δ.Ω. / 16-20 January 2013

We are delighted to inform you that we will host a 5-day Mapping and Parametric Design Workshop, organised by DigitalMed Workshop.

Workshop contents

- Mapping

Our reality, in all its forms, has studied through concepts of the theory of Complex Systems. The techniques that will be used to study events and places of reality, will work for the management, manipulation and visualization of data and information. These will form the basis for project management and driven geometry, conducted during the second phase of the workshop.

- Parametric Design

Introduction of Rhino and Grasshopper. Specifically, we will explain the general concepts with which we work with the software of parametric design and how they function. Through these tools, we will arrive at the definition of systems of mathematical and / or geometrical relationships that are able to generate and govern patterns, shapes and objects that will inform the final design.

Workshop structure

5 days of DigitalMed workshop visiting school. Students will have the opportunity to investigate aspects of data driven through a group project that will be presented at the end of workshop

Day 1: Introduction: the question of technique. the language and complex systems. patterns. emergent behaviors. from data to information. mapping: tools for negotiating aspects of reality. Introduction to computational design. scenarios of possible constructive output. Introduction to rhinoceros 3d and grasshopper.

Day 2: examples and exercises in class

Day 3- examples and exercises in class

Day 4- laboratory work for the final project

Day 5- laboratory work for the final project

DigitalMed Workshop is the effort of a team of young architects to share their experience in a contemporary aspect of architecture, architecture based on the use of digital tools, the parametric design as well as the mapping of our surrounding reality.

The workshop main concern is to familiarize the participants with the topics while at the same time gives them the necessary skills for their future involvement with parametric design.

NOTE: the workshop will be held in English. And the participants are required to use their own laptop. Rhinoceros 4 should be installed on the computer; otherwise an evaluation program will be downloaded from Rhino3d.com

Deadline for registrations is the 10th of January 2013. The workshop has a maximum of 30 participants and a minimum of 8.
